All that’s left to do is help yourself heal.

With Tegaderm/Second-Skin

Tegaderm is a clear, sticker like, bandage that we put on most tattoos when we finish.

  • This bandage can stay on for the entire healing process/7-10 days.

  • While it is on you do not need to do anything to or for your tattoo.

  • Avoid picking at the bandage

  • Sometimes tattoo ink and/or blood will spread and pool underneath the bandage. This is nothing to be concerned about and is perfectly normal.

    • However if there is a large amount of liquid underneath your bandage (to the point where it is creating a bubble of liquid) you can carefully cut a small hole or peel up an edge to drain out the liquid. And then attempt to re-stick it down.

  • Sometimes the bandage will not stick very well and peel off very quickly. This is not a big deal. You can take care of your tattoo very easily without it.

  • When you go to take the bandage off, do it very slowly and very carefully.

    • Wash your hands before handling your tattoo

    • Using water or doing it in the shower or bath can make it come off a bit easier.

    • It makes it look like you are peeling off your tattoo but that is simply excess ink that was on the surface of the skin.

Without a Bandage

While your tattoo is still healing.

  • Always wash your hands before handling your tattoo

  • While your tattoo is still in the initial healing phase where your skin is still an open wound (up to 7 days after getting your tattoo) try to very genitally wash your tattoo once a day.

    • Use (preferably unsented) antibacterial soap

    • Wash very quickly to avoid your tattoo absorbing any water

    • Make sure to thoroughly rinse any soap from the tattoo

    • Gently pat dry with paper towel

    • Wait for tattoo to air dry before adding any ointment

  • Using ointment

    • Only use ointment as needed. So if your tattoo feels dry, tight, or itchy.

    • We recommend Aquaphor and/or coconut oil

    • When using ointment apply a very small amount and attempt to rub it in like a lotion

      • Applying too much ointment can prevent the skin from being able to properly seal itself from bacteria and infections so please do not put a thick amount of ointment on your tattoo

    • Sunscreen should not be used on your tattoo until it is fully healed and the same texture as the rest of your skin. In the meantime try to cover your tattoo from the sun with clothing.

Fully Healed

It’s here to stay.

  • You will know your tattoo is fully healed once there is no scabbing, tenderness, itchiness, or flakiness left.

  • Only at this point can you do things like swimming, exposing your tattoo to any dirt or grime, or exposing your tattoo to the sun.

  • For the rest of your tattoos life we recommend using sunscreen as much as possible because it will help you maintain the colors of your tattoos.

  • Try to moisturize your tattoos often. It will make your skin age better and also make the colors of your tattoo stand out a lot better.

  • Please keep in mind that tattooing is not a perfect process and that parts of your tattoo may heal out or disappear over time. Some people's skin is more prone to this than others. Tattoos can be touched up if needed.
